Robust Scheduling by Hybrid Method of Policy Tree and Estimation of Distribution Algorithm and Application to Resource Constrained Project Scheduling Problem with Rework Uncertainty

This paper presents using policy tree and estimation of distribution algorithms (EDAs) to solve resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) with considering rework with probability. Firstly, the algorithm adopts policy tree to model the project scheduling problem, which contains decision variables, stochastic variables and precedence relations, trying to make proactive scheduling and reactive scheduling by structure of tree. Secondly, in order to avoid the memory problem associated with large tree, a linear function is used to generate policy tree, which is acted as the rule to generate dynamic scheduling for solution. Experiments results based on a set of benchmarks (PSPLIB) and comparisons with some existing methods demonstrate our approach with high effectiveness and tolerance with uncertainty.
